Greetings,

All. Here we are, mid-way through another month. To tell the truth, I don't have much news for you, but the calendar tells me that it's time to send out a summary. (and only two more to go after this! I'm getting so short, I have to pull down my socks to see!)

Well, I already let the cat out of the bag about GENE CLARK, W4AYK, taking over as SM on the first of October, (at NOON, to be perfectly precise) so
I believe I'll let another kitty out and let y'all know that also on October 1, MIKE BROWN, KE4FGF, will be taking over Gene's current position as our next SEC. Mike has done an extraordinary job as our DEC in SW GA, and I know he'll continue to shine as our SEC. He's already hard at work to make sure that our SET in October is a real winner. So, all of you DECs, be prepared to hear from him in the very near future.

OK, one more kitty wants out. My better half MIKE, K4HBI, has been OOing for even longer than I've been SMing, and I'm afraid that he's ready to retire, too. I've gotta say, he's been an outstanding OOC, who has been very quick to point out that he didn't have to "sleep with the SM" to get the position, either, as he was appointed by my wise predecessor, SANDY DONAHUE, W4RU. Mike has decided to step down in the middle of September, and taking his place will be RICHARD TURNER, WB4A. I have no doubts that the OO program will continue to be in good hands.

I've really tried to hide it, but SCOTT SIKES, KD4MSR, AKA Professor L.O. Power, has figured it out. (sigh) I'm not "quite perfect". (Ask Mike... he'll tell ya!) As Scott pointed out, the Flight of the Bumblebees QRP operating event is NOT on July 26, as incorrectly reported in the July newsletter. It's actually coming up THIS WEEKEND... on the 16th. Sorry for the booboo....now, start buzzing, all you QRPers.

Congratulations to the officers and members of the Cherokee Capital ARS for their recent renewal as a Special Service Club, a designation reserved for those clubs that excel in many areas.

Congratulations, also, to CHARLES PENNINGTON, K4GK, for being selected as the 2009 GA Amateur Operator of the Year by the GA Single Sideband Association.

SILENT KEYS: ROBERT CARTER, W4IRL; WILLARD STRAIN, KG4PEA; and ERNEST ZINGLEMAN, KS4Q.

Heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of each of these fine men.

Jeepers, this may be the shortest mid-monthly summary EVER, but unless you want me to tell you all about our daughter's wedding, or about how hard it is to find a good literary agent in this economy, I got nuttin. So, until next time, this is AF4FO, signing clear. Take care of yourselves. And each other.

73, Susan
